Lafayette Learns: "Our National Seedbank"
Adults and older teens - please join us for "Our National Seedbank: Protecting Plant Collections in Fort Collins" featuring Dr. Gayle Volk.
Many people have heard of the Svalbard Global Seedbank in Norway, but don't realize we have our own vault with both freezer and liquid nitrogen storage that maintains hundreds of thousands of seeds and other plant materials for plant breeding and research right here in Colorado. Dr. Gayle Volk, scientist at the USDA National Laboratory for Plant Genetic Resources Preservation in Fort Collins, Colorado, will share information about the U.S. national plant gene bank. Our materials have played key roles in plant breeding and will continue to be critical for continued agricultural productivity in a changing climate.
