Teen Science Café: "Teaching Computers to See: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Help People who are Blind" - Register

Teens in grades 9-12 - sign up for February's Teen Science Café with CU Science Discovery.

For our first Science Discovery Teen Cafe at the Lafayette Public library, we’re excited to meet Josh Myers-Dean, who is passionate about using artificial intelligence (AI) to develop “computer vision” in order to help people who are visually impaired navigate the world.

Come learn how scientists are trying to teach computers to see, why it’s so hard to do well, and what it took for Josh to go from college dropout to PhD student. We’ll also tell you about some exciting (paid!) internship opportunities involving AI and accessibility for high school students at CU this summer!

More about the topic

Artificial intelligence isn’t just science fiction. It’s an exciting new field within computer science, and it has many potential applications for our daily lives.

Can you really teach a computer to tell a person who is blind what they’re pointing their camera at? How do scientists tell a computer how to recognize a bottle? A car? One person from another?

About the Café
Join us upstairs in the seating area at the North end of the Library near the Makerspace. Every month we'll have a lively discussion covering a topic on the cutting edge of science and culture. Register for any that you would like to attend!
